Intelligence informs. Due diligence decides.
Intelligence is information and capability. Due diligence is an investigative assessment made for a decision. The two are related, and Hydra draws on the same analysts, sources and methods for both, but they are not the same product.
Hydra's intelligence work establishes what is known about a person, a company, a network or a situation, and keeps that knowledge current. A due diligence assessment starts from a specific decision, whether that is an acquisition, a partnership, a senior appointment, an investment or a supply contract, and asks what you need to know before you commit to it. The methods overlap. The purpose does not.
Every Hydra assessment is built around four questions. What is true. What is unverified. What is a risk. What to do about it. The work is typically commissioned by boards, general counsel, investment committees and the principals of private companies, often against a timetable set by the transaction itself. The result is a judgement you can act on, with the evidence set out so that you, your board or your counsel can test it.
Six forms of assessment, one standard of evidence.
The core of Hydra's practice is corporate and counterparty work: the company you are buying, financing or contracting with, and the people behind it. Each assessment is scoped to the decision, the jurisdictions involved and the level of exposure at stake.
- 01→
Corporate Due Diligence
An investigative assessment of a company: its ownership, directors, beneficial ownership, reputation, litigation history, operations and connected entities. Commissioned before an acquisition, a merger, a joint venture, a financing or any relationship in which the company itself is the risk.
- 02→
Partner & Counterparty Due Diligence
For clients about to enter a significant relationship: a distributor, a joint venture partner, a licensee, a borrower or the other side of a large contract. Hydra establishes who you are dealing with, how they have conducted themselves with others, and whether what they have told you holds up.
- 03→
Individual Due Diligence
Assessment of executives, partners, private individuals, investors and other key people. Identity, background, business history, reputation, litigation and regulatory exposure, and any undisclosed interests or affiliations that bear on the decision.
- 04→
Supplier Due Diligence
Verification of suppliers, their operations, their ownership and the representations they have made to you. Where it matters, Hydra verifies in person whether the factory, warehouse, office or fleet exists and operates as described.
- 05→
Investment & Transaction Due Diligence
Commissioned before committing capital or entering a major transaction. Hydra examines the people, the entities, the assets and the claims behind the opportunity, and reports on the risks that financial and legal review alone may not surface.
- 06→
Enhanced Due Diligence
For cases requiring deeper investigation: high-value transactions, higher-risk jurisdictions, politically exposed persons, complex ownership structures, or an earlier finding that needs to be resolved. Enhanced work adds record retrieval in each relevant jurisdiction, a wider circle of human sources and deeper historical coverage to the standard assessment.
What we examine, and what you receive.
What an assessment covers
Scope is agreed at the outset and matched to the decision. A standard assessment draws on the areas below. Not every area applies to every case, and some cases require more.
- 01Identity and background of principalsWho the people behind the entity are, and whether their stated history holds.
- 02Ownership and beneficial ownershipRegistered holders, nominees and the individuals who ultimately control or benefit.
- 03Corporate structure and connected entitiesParents, subsidiaries, affiliates and the relationships a single registry entry will not show.
- 04Litigation and regulatory historyCivil claims, insolvency, enforcement action and regulatory findings in each relevant jurisdiction.
- 05Sanctions, PEP and adverse mediaScreening against published sanctions lists and licensed sources, with adverse media read and weighed rather than counted.
- 06Reputation and track recordHow the subject has dealt with partners, clients, employees and creditors, drawn from human enquiry as well as records.
- 07Digital footprintOnline presence, historic activity, domain and infrastructure records, and anything that contradicts the official account.
- 08Operations and premisesWhether the business exists at the scale described.
- 09Representations made to youThe specific claims in the pitch, the data room or the contract, tested one by one.
- 10Blockchain exposure where relevantWallets, transaction history and counterparties, where digital assets form part of the business or the transaction.
How it is reported
The output is a written assessment, not a bundle of search results. It is meant to be read by a decision-maker and to stand up when challenged.
- 01A clear written assessmentFindings, their basis and their weight, in plain language, with a summary for those who need the answer first.
- 02Verified facts separated from reported and unverified informationEvery finding is labelled by its source and its standing, so you know what has been established and what has only been said.
- 03Risks gradedEach risk is rated by severity and likelihood, with the reasoning shown, rather than presented as an undifferentiated list.
- 04Practical recommendationsWhat to do about it: proceed, proceed on specific conditions, seek further verification, or walk away.
- 05Field verification and follow-up investigation where warrantedWhere a finding cannot be settled from records and sources alone, Hydra proposes and, on instruction, carries out physical verification or further investigation.
Hydra distinguishes verified official records from allegations, rumours and unverified online information.
The availability, depth and reliability of records vary by jurisdiction. Where a record cannot be obtained or verified, the assessment says so, and explains what that gap means for the decision in front of you.
